Tajikistan as a Key Platform for Addressing Global Water and Climate Challenges

From May 25 to 28, 2026, the Republic of Tajikistan hosted the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028”, organized at the initiative of the United Nations and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The conference served as an important political and scientific platform for discussing issues related to water resources, climate change, environmental security, and sustainable development.

Representatives of states, international organizations, financial institutions, civil society, scientists, and experts participated in the conference, discussing key issues related to the rational use of water resources, strengthening international cooperation, and identifying solutions to water- and climate-related challenges.

The primary objective of the conference was to strengthen international cooperation in implementing the goals of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028” and to support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 — ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all.

The conference once again reinforced the role of the Republic of Tajikistan as a leading country in advancing the global water agenda. Participants highly appreciated Tajikistan’s international initiatives in the fields of water and climate.

It was emphasized that the outcomes of the conference could contribute to the implementation of sustainable development goals, environmental protection, and water security at both regional and international levels. By continuing its constructive initiatives in water and climate issues, the Republic of Tajikistan will further strengthen its effective role in addressing global challenges.
