Traditional Kundal Painting Revived at Khujand Fortress Cultural Complex

Training in the traditional art of Kundal painting is continuing at the Historical and Cultural Complex of Khujand Fortress with the participation of experienced artisans. The initiative is part of Tajikistan’s efforts to preserve and promote traditional crafts while educating a new generation of skilled craftsmen.

Kundal painting is one of the oldest forms of Tajik decorative art, renowned for its raised ornamental patterns and gilded designs. To safeguard this valuable cultural heritage, the French Cultural Centre in Khujand is implementing the project “Revival of Traditional Decorative Arts,” aimed at preserving cultural traditions, teaching young people, and strengthening regional cultural cooperation.

The project contributes to the preservation of national heritage, the training of young professionals, and the international promotion of Tajikistan’s traditional arts.
