On the sidelines of the Fourth High-Level International Conference on Water Issues and the Global Water Agenda in Dushanbe, a regional seminar for the parliaments of Eurasian countries entitled “Addressing Climate Change and Sustainable Development through Parliamentary Measures” was held.
The seminar was organized at the initiative of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and brought together representatives of the parliaments of Eurasian countries and Türkiye, officials of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and representatives of international organizations.
Discussions focused on climate change, water resource protection, sustainable development, greenhouse gas emission reduction, strengthening regional cooperation, and the role of parliaments in implementing climate policies.
Participants emphasized that climate change has gone beyond being solely an environmental issue and has become a factor affecting national security, economic development, and social stability. Particular attention was paid to the international initiatives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in advancing the global water and climate agenda, including the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation.
The participants also stressed the importance of expanding international cooperation, strengthening climate financing mechanisms, attracting green investment, and ensuring equal access to modern environmental technologies.
