The national festival-contest “One Fabric – A Hundred Colors” along with an exhibition and sale of chakan embroidery and traditional handicrafts has been launched at the initiative of the Committee for Women and Family Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture. The event aims to revive and develop traditional crafts, promote national culture and Tajik clothing, support designers and artisans, enhance aesthetic appreciation, and showcase the cultural heritage of the Tajik people. The preparatory and selection stage has begun in the capital city — Dushanbe.
Currently, the jury is reviewing theatrical presentations from various regions at the Tajik National Conservatory named after Talabkhudja Sattorov. The best entries will be selected to participate in the final stage of the festival.
The festival aims not only to preserve and revive traditions but also to promote Tajik national attire and strengthen cultural ties between regions. Designers, artisans, and fashion representatives from across the country are taking part, presenting their finest works. The selection stage features traditional garments such as chakan, atlas, and adras, along with intricate embroidery and goldwork incorporating both modern and traditional elements.
The competition includes several categories:
- traditional and modern national costume design;
- artistic embroidery, including gold embroidery;
- weaving and textile production;
- handmade crafts and folk art;
- design using national motifs.
Such initiatives play an important role in promoting cultural heritage, supporting local artisans, and enhancing Tajikistan’s image on the international stage.
