Khatlon: 940,000 Tourists Visited the Region During the First Six Months of the Year

In recent years, tourism development has become one of the key priorities of the economic policy of the Republic of Tajikistan. In this regard, the Khatlon Region holds a special position due to its rich natural, historical, and cultural heritage. From ancient monuments dating back to the Kushan era and protected natural reserves to renowned pilgrimage sites and recreational destinations, these attractions have made Khatlon one of the country’s most appealing tourist regions.

According to the Head of the Tourism Development Department of the Khatlon Region, 940,000 tourists visited the region during the first six months of 2026, including 63,183 international visitors. These figures clearly demonstrate the steadily growing interest of foreign travelers in the tourism potential of the Khatlon Region.

Experts believe that the increase in tourist arrivals is attributable not only to the region’s abundant natural and historical resources. Significant improvements in tourism infrastructure, including the construction of hotels and recreational facilities, modernization of road networks, and enhancement of tourism services, have also played a crucial role in attracting visitors.

Today, international tourists show particular interest in visiting the Hulbuk Historical and Cultural Reserve, the Ajina-Tepa Buddhist Monastery, mountain tourism destinations, natural attractions, and the region’s therapeutic mineral springs.

At the same time, rural tourism, agritourism, and ecotourism are rapidly developing and have become promising new areas for attracting visitors.

One of the key instruments for promoting the tourism potential of the Khatlon Region is the organization of international forums and exhibitions. Such events not only showcase the region’s economic opportunities but also create favorable conditions for attracting investors, entrepreneurs, and tourism companies.

In this context, the Khatlon Invest International Forum and Exhibition is scheduled to take place in October this year. According to the organizers, more than 500 investors, company representatives, and business leaders from the tourism sector have already been invited to participate in the event.
