An international scientific and practical conference titled “35 Years of State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan: Development and Strengthening of Hydrometeorological Monitoring and Glacier Protection under Climate Change” was held today in Dushanbe.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Sulaymon Ziyozoda emphasized that climate change is having a significant impact on the environment, water resources and socio-economic development. The issue is particularly important for Tajikistan, where more than 93 percent of the territory is mountainous.
The conference addressed glacier protection, climate change adaptation, the improvement of modern weather monitoring and forecasting systems, sustainable water resource management, and the expansion of international scientific cooperation.
Participants also highlighted Tajikistan’s international initiatives on water, climate change and glacier protection, stressing their importance for strengthening global cooperation in addressing climate-related challenges.
