As an important historical and cultural center, the city of Panjakent is home to dozens of unique ancient monuments, each of which reflects the rich past of the Tajik nation. Today, six historical and cultural sites of this city have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, further strengthening Panjakent’s position on the world tourism map.
Among them, the outstanding monuments of Ancient Sarazm and Ancient Panjakent occupy a prominent place. These sites are of great interest not only to researchers and archaeologists, but also to domestic and international tourists.
In order to preserve and protect this invaluable heritage, the Government of the country has taken the necessary measures and created favorable conditions for its study and promotion. In this regard, the establishment of the State Institution “Panjakent–Sarazm Archaeological Base” is considered an important step.
This base, as a scientific and cultural center, has organized its activities in the fields of preservation, study, and promotion of historical monuments. Two historical reserves and two museums operate under the institution, ensuring the protection of unique historical artifacts.
Responsibility for preserving these historical treasures has been entrusted to specialists in the field, who carry out their work with a high sense of responsibility. In recent years, significant efforts have been made to improve the operating conditions of the base.
In particular, the storage conditions of museum collections have been brought into compliance with international standards, and modern facilities have been created for the proper preservation of exhibits. These measures contribute to the long-term preservation of historical artifacts and help prevent damage to them.
At the same time, the guesthouse of the base has been fully renovated and equipped with all the necessary facilities. Now visitors and tourists, especially domestic and foreign archaeologists, can make use of its services during their visits. This initiative will contribute to the development of the tourism sector and attract more researchers to the region.
Alongside preservation and visitor services, scientific research activities also remain at the center of the base’s attention. The institution’s staff, in cooperation with the scientific council and experts in the field, are continuously engaged in conducting research, and the results obtained are reviewed at scientific events.
These measures contribute to a deeper study of the region’s history and to its promotion at the international level. Overall, Panjakent today is strengthening its position not only as a historical center, but also as an important destination for tourism development and scientific research.
