Given the rich natural, historical, cultural, and ecological resources of Khatlon Region, tourism can become one of the priority sectors of the regional economy. Analysis indicates that the number of foreign tourists visiting the country to explore the tourist attractions of Khatlon Region is increasing every year.

All cities and districts of the region are attractive and possess strong potential for development in the priority areas of the sector. In particular, in recent years, the international community has shown growing interest in such sites as Takhti-Sangin, Chiluchorchashma, Childukhtaron, the mausoleum of Imam Zayn al-Abidin, the mausoleum of the renowned Eastern scholar and thinker Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani, as well as the mausoleum of Hazrat Sultan Uwais Qarani.

It should be noted that Childukhtaron is one of the most beautiful natural sites in southern Tajikistan. It is located in Muminabad District of Khatlon Region, 250 kilometres south of Dushanbe. Mount Childukhtaron is situated 28 kilometres north of the centre of Muminabad District, near the village of Dashti-Arar. It consists of pyramid-shaped rock formations rising up to 60 metres in height, which have been shaped by wind erosion over a long period of time.
Among the local population, numerous legends and oral traditions about Mount Childukhtaron have existed since ancient times. According to these legends, the forty stone statues on Mount Childukhtaron symbolize the chastity and purity of Tajik women.
